I work for @task. We've been studying some of the challenges associated with managing and collaborating project teams via project management software. Based on the results of our studies, we developed a new social project management platform called @task Stream. It takes the concepts from social networking and combines them with project management methodologies. I'd love to hear what you have to say about the subject. Do you think software such as this will be the wave of the future?

G'day RTOsupport,

Thanks for your comment, I've already got a Cert IV Assessment and Workplace training and a Advanced Diploma in Project Management and I've assessed a number of students from the local TAFE who attended their Diploma of Project Management course. So I'm really searching for an RTO that will issue the qualification from my assessment report.

If you know of any that are registered to deliver Project Management qualifications, please let me know.

Cheers,

Shane.

"Next, I’m considering either partnering with an existing Registered Training Organisation to deliver a Diploma of Project Management course over a 2-3 weekends or a Certificate of Attendance course on Project Management. What do you think?"

RTO partnerships can be a good choice, the issue to consider is whether the course I teach is aligned to any of the units of competency in the National Training Packages (and there will be sum) and whether I want (and the participants are prepared to) to issue assessments that need to be completed before the certificates can be issued.

RTO qualifications must be assessed, so there is the theory AND the assessment. Most professional courses are attendance only and this is where the difference will be. To partner will require me to assess, (which will make the outcome much more valuable) the alternative is to issue a certificate of attendance which is very different to a certificate of competency. www.rtosupport.com.au

As you say there are few metrics that span the entire project lifecycle that PPM provides other than cost. Metrics that I have seen used to motivate the team are “Percent to Feature Completion”, “QA Failure Rate” and “Days Ahead of Schedule”. The true test of the release management process, is the “Post Production Incident Rate” which should be an important topic at the post implementation and project review meeting.

Probably worth mentioning the tyranny of distance here.
The process is always going to be slower in a distributed team.
